1. A shunt generator has an induced emf of 200 V. The terminal voltage is 180 V. Find the load current if the field and armature resistances are 100 ohm and 0.1 ohm respectively.
Solution:
Here, induced emf, Eg= 200 V
Terminal voltage, Vt= 180 V
Field resistance, Rsh = 100 ohm
Armature resistance, Ra= 0.1 ohm
Since, Vt= Eg- Ia Ra
=> Ia= (Eg- Vt)/Ra
=(200-180)/0.1
= 200 A
Ish= V/Ish
=180/100
= 1.8 A
Again,
Ia= IL+ Ish
=> IL =Ia- Ish
= 200 - 1.8
= 198.2 A
